Pronunciation: It would be impossible to adequately express, in text, how welcome you feel when you walk into a party and an Aussie friend says, 'mate!!' (usually followed by "He's a Pom, but he's alright!"). Try some of the phrases below, preferably with a few tinnies, and With a little practice, 'You'll be right, mate!'
Warning: The staff at Day12 Phrase Books would like to point out that whilst we have stuck fairly closely to James's suggestions, we did get a bit carried away and added some phrases of our own... for comedic effect. it has been suggested that some people might have trouble telling our phrases from James's so if, having looked through the list below, you think you might get into trouble using our phrase book down-under, you may want to seriously think about staying at home and getting a job in a bank during your gap-year. We would also highly recommend that you read the footnotes article, '26 Ways to Die Down-under' and decide whether you'll make it back alive from Oz, or not.
Do you speak a language that doesn't appear here? Email us at info@day12.com and we'll send you the template for this page. You can also get in touch if you have ideas for any words or phrases we've missed.
