More than footprints..?
Independent travel has changed in the 40 years since the first hippies caught the magic bus to katmandu. we're travelling in greater numbers, spending more money and getting further from the beaten track than ever before. independent travel has become a major part of the global tourism industry. The old adage 'Take only photographs, leave only footprints' was a nice idea before the people we encountered on our trips got Facebook profiles but now we at The Day12 Project think it's time we looked differently at how we travel and interact with those people we meet.
More than footprints is a 40,075 kilometre journey through Europe, across Asia to Australia, South America and West Africa to interview local NGOs, organise conferences in universities along the route and find out from local people what the hundreds of thousands of backpackers who take the road every year are doing right, what we're doing wrong, and how we can travel more sustainably. The Route, the rules and everything else you need to know about 'More Than Footprints'...
We're going to need your support on everyting from fundraising to publishing the results - and we're even looking for people who want to come with us! - so if you want to get involved, contact us at morethanfootprints@day12.com.
See you on the beach.
