Entrepreunerial Backpackers - from hairdressers who do a roaring trade by setting up salons on the beach to backpackers who ask everyone for their unwanted books and two days later have started their own waterstones in the restaurant.

F

Fajita - Mexico is a very warm country all year round but during the winter months the temperature can drop as low as 78 degrees and the very poor people who inhabit the deserts and mountains have no defence against the cold except to gather round miniature fajita's and try to keep warm. Stuffed with jalapeno peppers and scotch bonnets fajita's are also pocket-sized so can keep the hands warm during football matches. (from Pedro)

Fire Sticks - (see P - Poi)

Food - Thai food is the best in the world. My ex-girlfriend used to harp on about it so it must be. It's all green and has lime and coconut in everything and makes your shit unstickable. I took her for dinner one night and afterwards she went to the bathroom round at mine. She had a satay curry, which is made from peanuts, and there wasn't a trace of brown in the pan afterwards. I know cos I checked. Thai food rocks! (from Groucho)

Full Moon Parties - Are they any good? once a month Hadd rinn beach plays host to several sound systems and several thousand dancing backpackers. Those who went in the late eighties say they're not the same as they were. anyone who's been since then will tell you that apart from an increased police presence they're quite a laugh. I've been to three or four and I had a great time, but I was so off my tits I'd have had fun at an insurance seminar. The other view (as posted on the Day12 Notice Board) is that they signal the death of Thai culture at the hands of a few idiots whose purpose in life seems to be the pursuit of hedonism, the waving of arms to repetitive bleeps, consumption of diet pills laced with methamphetamine, fraternization with prostitutes and lady-boys, and wearing of tie-dye. Sums up everything wrong and vacuous about western youth.
