The
Day12 A-Z
of...
Mexico

C

Chiapas - State down south where the revolutionaries hang out doing bugger all.

Chihuahua - Small dog with a mexican sounding name. may well be from mexico.

D

Dia de los Muertos - The Day of the Dead. Aztec festival dating back to mesoamerican times and celebrated in the month of miccailhuitontli. The festival is actually a very solemn affair with families remembering the dead and tidying their graves. Then the kids dress up as skeletons and zombies and the evening descends into an orgy of tequila and violence. The parents amuse themselves with quiet conversation and chilled avocado juice.

E

Earthquake - Destroyed much of ancient mexico. Which was nearly all based in the same place. And on top of a fault line. Unwise. Even the dinosaurs spread themselves out a bit.

F

Fajitas - Mexico is a very warm country all year round but during the winter months the temperature can drop as low as 78 degrees and as it is a very poor people that inhabits the deserts and mountains there is no recourse against the cold except to gather round miniature fajita's and try to keep warm. Stuffed with jalapeno peppers and scotch bonnets fajita's are also pocket-sized so can keep hands warm during football matches.

Fundido's - My favourite word in the whole world. Something like a mini fondue with shredded chicken and the staple jalepino pepper smothered in creamcheese and wrapped in a baked tortilla with melted cheese on top. Greasy, unhealthy - but they're called Fundidos for Hesus sake! (from Howzar)

G

Gringo - Anyone not from mexico and/or not wearing a sombrero.
